Job Title: Project Controls Reporting Analyst (Utilities)
Location: New Jersey
Type: Full-time, Hybrid, up to 3 days a week in office

CARIAN is growing! We are a proud, nationally certified woman-owned management consulting firm specializing in program management and business intelligence services for the utilities sector. We’re looking for a skilled Financial Data Analyst to join our team and support project controls, cost management, and data reporting for utility clients.

We are seeking a mid-level Financial Data Analyst with 3-5 years of experience in project controls or a financial/business role. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, has excellent communication skills, and can quickly learn in a dynamic environment. Proficiency in SAP, Power BI, and MS Office tools is a plus. This role will play a key part in delivering accurate financial data and insights to support our utility clients’ program and portfolio management needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Project Controls Engineers (PCEs) and Project Control Schedulers (PCSs) to gather, analyze, and validate data for quality assurance.
  • Develop and maintain portfolio/program status and variance reports, as well as executive dashboards.
  • Prepare, publish, and present detailed reports to stakeholders, focusing on cost management, project controls, and performance metrics.
  • Calculate and present cost and schedule KPIs, including Project Cost & Schedule Performance (PCSP) and Project Closeout Checklist.
  • Reconcile and provide QA/QC of financial and project management data to support reporting and overall business needs.
  • Coordinate and support documentation development for presentations and notifications.
  • Use critical thinking to identify and resolve issues, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with business rules, procedures, and processes.
  • Facilitate the gathering and organizing of documents and information from various stakeholders.
  • Support the transition of reporting to Power BI, maintaining and building Power BI reports to provide stakeholders with actionable insights.
  • Support ongoing reporting needs and adapt quickly to new requirements in a fast-paced environment.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in cost reporting, project controls, or a similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data visualization) and experience with Power BI (preferred).
  • SAP experience (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate across teams and present findings.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Utility industry experience (preferred but not required).
  • Quick learner with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
